Piercing forceps with open triangular jaws, resting on a clean surface.

What the description means

“Triangular” describes a geometric feature stated in a product sheet, but does not on its own identify the manufacturer, model, dimensions or intended use. To avoid ambiguity, specify which part is triangular and consult the device code and technical drawing.

It should not automatically be treated as synonymous with Pennington: a model’s sheet may use both descriptions, but that does not make them interchangeable for every instrument.

A catalogue example

Model BH902R is described as straight Pennington grasping forceps, 155 mm long, with fenestrated triangular jaws and a ratchet. It is a concrete example of how “triangular” may appear alongside a model name and other specifications; it does not define all triangular forceps.

The commercial description documents the stated features of that product, not a function or site of use in body piercing.

Limitations of the sources on piercing

The sources consulted do not establish when or why triangular forceps should be used in body piercing. They do not document that the shape improves visibility, distributes the grip or stabilises tissue in this practice. A technical indication therefore cannot be inferred from the geometry alone.

Before describing a specific use, evidence relating to the model and proposed professional practice is needed. Without such evidence, the application should be described as unverified and not presented as standard.

Checks to make

  • Identify the part described as triangular and compare it with the product sheet or technical drawing.
  • Record the manufacturer, code, dimensions and configuration; do not generalise from a photograph or a name.
  • Consult the manufacturer’s instructions for intended use and, if the device is reusable, for reprocessing.
  • Assess separately what the product sheet documents and what a professional piercing protocol authorises or recommends.

Conclusion

“Triangular” describes a shape; it is not a recommendation for use. The sources reviewed make it possible to identify at least one model with triangular jaws, but not to say when it should be used in body piercing. The decision should not be inferred from the commercial name.
